The Ma Khaen berry is traditionally used by the Akha people in North Laos. It's harvested only by women. The Akha are an animist hill tribe who live in the province of Muang Sing, on the border between Myanmar, Laos and China.
This berry with aromas of mandarin and smoked tea is traditionally used in Lao cuisine in a sauce for grilled chicken with lemon grass, ginger and Chilli. It's also perfect for a gin and tonic.
